'OK! Thats quite a good amount of furniture. I think that our largest vehicle would be best suited to the job. We’ve got a few more things to go through if that’s ok, as I’m quite keen to get the estimate as close as possible.'
Would you like us to move EVERYTHING in the house, or just the big furniture?
Will everything be in boxes? We always recommend that everything gets boxed up to save you time and money
Do you have any extra heavy or extra large items? If you do, can you send us in some photos?
Would you like us to dismantle and reassemble any items? If there are a few items we recommend a third man to speed things up. We carry a toolkit, but we may not have specialist tools
Do you have a lift at either end?: Where we have a full-ish truck and lift access at pick up or drop off, we always recommend three movers rather than two, to speed up the loading/unloading process. Once again, the hourly rate is slightly higher, but this is offset by the increase in speed and efficiency.
Do you have stairs? How many flights? Are the majority of the larger items up stairs or downstairs? What’s access like in and out of the house for large objects?
'I’m just going to have a look at streetview as we talk, as I’ll need to identify exactly where we will be able to park the truck.' (This probably has the biggest impact on whether our estimate is accurate or not.)
Driveway: have you had very large trucks in this particular driveway before?
Is the driveway particularly steep? If so, our truck may need to park at the top and we can walk the items up/down
Parking restrictions: We have to abide by all parking restrictions in your area. We need three parking spaces length for approximately (three) hours. We’re very happy to park wherever you’d like us to, excluding a clearway, however we can’t be responsible for any parking tickets
City of Melbourne offers reserved parking spots
50% discount apply for residents for moving in residential areas.
City of Yarra offers free tradesperson permits
City of Port Phillip offers free tradesperson permits
Please note…
For each full truck booking, please explain that overtime rates may apply if the move takes longer than 8 hours.
Don’t forget to save three car park spaces out the front if possible for the truck.
We don’t move pianos, we recommend Lachlan Brown
We don’t move marble or stone tables 1m or larger in any dimension (our insurance won’t cover it)
Trampolines need to be dismantled
Both the pick up and the drop off addresses must be looked at every time on Google Maps to see what the access and parking is like. Access is the biggest determinate of whether or not the job runs to estimate or not. If its unlikely we can get a park out the front or very close to the entrance, add extra time to your estimate
Every Extra Large booking should have another office member look over the estimate, preferably an Extra Large truck driver.
Do not book two full Extra Large jobs per vehicle per day. If you have a full truck booking in the morning, the afternoon should be a medium truck booking or a small move requiring a tail lift. This allows us some wriggle room if the morning job blows out
Please overestimate the length of time you expect the job to take. Generally, we are underestimating Extra Large jobs.
Two Bedroom unit/house + 30 boxes = T2 or 10m3 to 17m3
More than this - either more beds/rooms, boxes or a couple of large specialty items becomes a B2 or 17m3 to 30m3 "for house moves, always ask about garage stuff. Where the customer is unsure, or details a good amount of garage stuff, go with a B2. if there’s more than 2 couches, that’s a good indicator of a larger house rather than a smaller apartment."
Three bedroom + house or 30m3 +
More than 6h of work we recommend 3 movers
Lift access.
Lots of furniture to dis/re-assemble.
Jobs with extremely heavy or delicate items.
Note: If the client requests an Extra Large sized vehicle with three movers, always say yes
