• New draft policy awaiting feedback from next meeting

Safe Manual Handling

• Group has been meeting regularly, meeting Wednesday afternoon

• Conduct risk assessments in five priority areas using WorkSafe templates.

• Fortnightly sessions happening with interested participants (Matt /Graeme / Thom / Lance  / Jack).

• Review of manual handling policies on the wiki is pending.

• Look at ways of engaging the Cranbangers (seem to be having more injuries)

• Reports that Cranbourne crew feel unsupported at times.

• Ways to prevent falls from back of trucks and ramps

• SWIMS based on official Worksafe document will be created by working group.

• Building site specific scenario recommendations for particular technical moves.

• Focus areas:

  • Moving fridges upstairs (including suction cups, shoulder dollies).

  • Risk reduction strategies for back injuries.

  • Engagement with Cranbourne team on injury prevention.

• Trolley Storage Safety Discussion:

  • Debate on hanging trolleys from interior roof rails vs. securing externally.

  • Incident of head injury from roof-hung trolley noted.

• Heat policy to be reviewed:

• End of summer (effectiveness assessment).

• Pre-summer (legislation check and updates).

• Discussion of merging environmental risks (e.g., storms, wind) into a single policy.

Safety Tip of the Month

1. Driving: Maintain safe braking distances in wet/low visibility conditions.

2. Truck Safety: Always re-clip back doors, even at depot.
