OHS Committee Meeting 1/8/2023

Toolbox reps:

• Sarah Driscoll - OHS report works best when we actually have real talking points for toolbox

• Update from Anthony Perry about not driving on grass 

Questions for toolbox: 

• Any safety issues over last month?

• How to deal with used first aid kits?

  • • Get staff to check/replace used kit with fresh sealed kit

• Truck equipment: Fire extinguisher / hi viz / hazards / wipers / condition of ramp / traffic cones / first aid kits / ramp hooks (rivets any less than 3 let Richie know)

• Don’t slam ramps

• Use indicators, rather than hazards

Injury report for OHS committee (requested by SP):

• Mondays and Saturdays most common injury days

• Twisting and straining most common injuries

Tim to provide monthly report on injuries:

1. How many? 

2. How many as % increase or decrease? down from 

3. Types of injuries?

4. How they occurred? 

5. Days off?

6. Medical treatment required?

Mechanical issue report

1. Worn ramp hooks - insufficient rivets

• Photos of good/bad hooks requested

Working groups:

Domestic and family violence group met

A lot of work to do

• Training from lifeline was not sufficient

• We need advice on how best to respond to violent situations or disclosures of violent situations

• Requested mental health first aid training for movers to deal with challenging mental health situation and better inform actions when at a victim survivors house 

• Flexible payment options for survivors discussed; rejected by management

• Discussed developing more tailored response to family violence situations

• Current phone script, incomplete, requires urgent update and review

• Meeting next Tuesday management to attend

• Link to traumatic response policy for movers who do family violence move

• Rework quiz to video or easily translatable material 

• Heads up text to movers assigned the night before

•  Discussed select group of more experienced staff to be placed on DV/FV moves; rejected by management 

• Introduce policy to inductees during training

• Hold spot for privacy moves

Hazardous Manual Handling

Turning heat policy into more general weather policy Tim / Anthony / Sascha - placed on back-burner because hazardous manual handling policy taking priority

• Outsourced policy does not seem useful

• Need a dynamic model to assess risks 

• Employer must mitigate risks with control measures based on hierarchy of controls

• Hazardous manual handling working group meeting set

• Tim to gather materials

Discrimination & Harassment

• Discrimination and Harassment Quiz to be sent to Tim for sharing
