Surveillance of computer screens
General discussion around this issue,
Staff generally do not feel great about having upper management see their screens. Some staff members feel more strongly about this than others
General discontent noted about this issue. They don’t like feeling as though they have done something wrong when they haven’t.
General consensus this could be addressed with a change in seating arrangement.
Seating Arrangement
General consensus that the current seating arrangement is not liked (mostly due to feeling like they are being constantly watched)
Doesn’t accommodate intermingling between office staff
Suggestion: a central pod with desks facing each other
Agreed a change in seating could be explored further, would engage staff to develop a new seating plan.
General office vibe
Office staff feeling very isolated from road staff
Unhappy about the fact road staff do not come up to see them anymore
General discussion around road staff being kept out of office and the purpose of segregation.
Sascha reiterated that the social areas are outside of the phone room, and the phone room is a work space.
This is to avoid unnecessary volume levels and disturbance to staff actively working.
Graeme raised he feels like he cannot provide road staff with guidance with the phone room being separated from the downstairs area.
General discussion around what the role of a phone slinger is.
Graeme raised confusion on this issue. Viewed the role as more of a road support role.
Sascha clarified, the primary role for phone slingers is to book jobs through inbound calls and following up on web requests. Road support is a secondary part of the phone slinger role when no managers are around.
Allocated webbies and workflow
General discussion around allocated webbies
General consensus that staff are happy with allocated webbies
There are some things to be worked out such as new inbound webbies, or how to manage extremely busy days.
Sam raised reallocating all remaining webbies around lunch time would help keep on top of new inbound web requests.
General consensus that staffing levels should reflect work demalnds and that insufficient office staffing on critical days (Mondays, Tuesday, day after public holiday) directly impacts ability to get through webbies.
Sascha agreed to ensure sufficient staffing levels were met and maintained. Minimum 5 phone slingers on Mondays, Tuesdays and days after Public Holidays.
Lighting
Requested lighting changes to reduce glare on computer screens
Tim turned lights down to 20%
Pancake cleanup
Sam raised part of the pancake shift should include cleaning and washing up all pancake utensils, disposing of all unused batter and uneaten pancakes.
Sam proposed an additional 15min set aside at the end of the pancake shift to do brief cleanup
Sascha Agreed this should be done
Social events
Brando expressed desire for more social events
Idea for a team building event for the phone slingers was floated
General discussion on this topic included concerns regarding how such an event may be perceived by road staff.
Sascha agreed to discuss further with Jack Tandy
