Roster Policy: August 2025
Shift confirmation order policy
Moving staff will be allocated on to future shifts in the following manner
Permanent staff standard days of work
How busy a day of work is likely to be (e.g. Friday first, Sunday last)
Driving characteristics (XL licence > Licence > No Drive)
Number of days already assigned that week
Staff who made themselves available first
Seniority
Shift cancellation policy
Where required, staff will be cancelled from future shifts in the following manner
Ask for staff to take a day off and assign
AWOL previous day
Take off staff who were sick the previous day and said they would confirm with the office that they have recovered but have not yet done so.
More rostered shifts than requested.
Staff with unreasonable (redefine) shift requests (e.g: “MUST be back at the depot by 1pm”)
Take off staff who most recently made themselves available
Take off staff listed for the exact number of shifts requested, not distinguishing between staff working 5/5, 4/4, 3/3, 2/2, 1/1 days
Try not to cancel staff 2 days in a row. Where possible, days off should be shared equally across the staff base
Take off staff listed as “No Drive”
Take off newest staff members
Shift confirmations and cancellations to be sent out by 6pm 2 days in advance
Note:
- Man With A Van reserves the right not to offer a shift to any casual employee.
Trainees must be given an opportunity to complete training on weekdays
Consideration should be given to the difference between “I’ve asked for a day off” and “I’ve been forced to take a day off”
Number of days requested function needs to be better publicised and explained
Arrival time performance - note this is not currently available data
Rostering policy:
Weekly rostering up to required numbers per day
On the Monday of Week 1, staff are rostered for Week 3. Roster numbers are based on the current week’s requirement.
This may be changed depending on circumstance (e.g. public holidays, school holidays)
