Update provided regarding investigation into safe handling procedures for industrial sewing machines.
Contact had been made with Sister Works regarding filming safe handling demonstrations.
Awaiting response before organising demonstrations and training material.

The marble table trolley continues to be useful operationally.
Discussion included:
Proposal for a second trolley at Cranbourne.
Current budget limitations preventing immediate purchase.
Existing trolley available for all teams upon request.
Possible improvements including wheel-locking mechanisms and protective corner padding.
Suggestion to improve staff awareness through office prompts and notes.
Matt to continue investigation into trolley modifications with Richie.

Max provided an update on the rollout of the three-month assessment/training review process for newer staff.

Key points:

Emphasis on early support rather than diagnosis.
Committee acknowledged the organisation now has five trained Mental Health First Aiders.
Discussion highlighted:
Importance of psychological safety.
Encouraging staff to seek support where needed.
Committee extensively discussed a recent electrical incident involving unlicensed electrical work.
Concerns raised included:
Use of makeshift electrical wiring.
Unqualified staff involvement.
Potential legal and safety breaches.
Lack of communication following the incident.
Need to identify any other unauthorised electrical modifications onsite.

Importance of only qualified electricians performing electrical work.
Availability of qualified electrical staff members within the organisation.

The committee formally issued a reprimand regarding unlicensed electrical work.

The OHS Committee reprimands Tim Bishop for undertaking unlicensed electrical work.
Any future incidents involving unlicensed electrical work or directing others to perform such work may be referred to WorkSafe.

Suggestion made to include wet weather driving reminders in newsletters/messages.

Staff to submit two suggested phrases each by Friday.

Staff may assist at their discretion where safe.
Customers should be informed assistance is not covered by company liability.

8. Three-Month Exam for New Staff
Jack Tandy provided an update on the Lifters Guild proposal for a three-month competency exam for new staff.
Purpose
• To reinforce learning after the initial five-day induction.
• To identify workers who may need further support.
• To improve competency, consistency and safety.
Proposed structure
• A practical assessment where the trainee leads the day.
• Observation by a trainer against a competency checklist.
• A written assessment covering operational knowledge, including driving, signalling, customer interaction, payments and damage guarantee procedures.
The committee agreed that OHS should provide input into the safety components of the assessment.
Actions:
• Jack to circulate the working draft document.
• A subcommittee meeting to be organised to finalise the safety and competency components of the three-month exam.
9. Electricity Incident – Abbotsford Depot
Tim has provided a report on what happened.
Not clear why a device was required to do this
Against workplace health and safety law to do electrical work
Power cut is the best outcome here, could have been very different
This is a major incident and should not have had to take many months to get a report on
Jack moves that MWAV accept that - "Do not perform or allow any electrical work involving 240V unless a qualified electrician is doing it."
OHS committee would like to know how we can find out if there is any other unlicenced electrical work in the Abbotsford depot and how it can be rectified.
Matt to investigate an electrical safety inspection before next meeting
Nick proposed a motion "OHS committee issues a repriimand to Tim Bishop for doing unlicneced electrical work, and warns Tim that he himself or if he directs anyone else to perform unlincenced electrical work that the OHS committee will report it to Worksafe". Moved by Nick, seconded by Alex, voted unanimously.
Stretch Club
• Stretch Club in Abbotsford is continuing weekly and gaining momentum. Needs to be well promoted.
• Cranbourne’s version has not had the same engagement.
Preventative physio
• The committee discussed the possibility of bringing in a physio or offering some form of regular preventative body-check or triage service. Oscar’s interest in contributing to this area was noted. The idea was well received and may be explored further.
